Designing, Building and the Restoration of Yachts.

Sailing Yachts

Brion Rieff started sailing on Long Island Sound at the early age of five, and began a successful racing career at fourteen. His experience racing big sail boats has given him a unique perspective in the boat building business as he enjoys the sailing almost as much as design and building.

The current shop was built in 2001 in Brooklin Maine. The 4,000 square foot facility allows simultaneous construction of several boats. Our focus is both new construction using cold molded technology and restoration of classic wooden boats using traditional methods.

Our goal is to build attractive, seaworthy, easily maintained yachts. Brion’s blend of traditional methods with modern building methods and materials has resulted in such classics as Arrow, Wind Rose, Alana and Intuition. Older boats can be rebuilt using new materials and methods or rebuild as originally constructed, depending on the owners requirements. Brion’s love of pure classics is evident by a fleet of restored six meters and other famous classics which resulted in a finished product that is better than when originally constructed In addition, new boats have been built in the traditional method as evident in Annie, a Herreshoff Aileron that was built under the watchful eye of Maynard Bray and featured a Sliding Günter mast.

Brion has recently designed and built a 42 foot “Spirit of Tradition” yacht, which will ply the classic race circuit this summer. She features a foam core hull and carbon fiber spars but sports all the elegance and style of a former time.
